Tati vs Bresson: The Gag

Ελληνική Πρεμιέρα / Greek Premiere
ΗΠΑ, Γαλλία / USA, France, 2016, 20′, DCP, Έγχρ., Ασπρόμαυρο / Color Black & White, Με ήχο / Sound

Are there two directors whose works have less in common than Jacques Tati and Robert Bresson? And yet…and yet, the way they both structured a scene –in Tati’s case, a gag and in Bresson’s case, “an incident”– are remarkably similar. In addition to both being one-of-a-kind geniuses, they were both fanatically obsessed with creating the perfect sound effects for their masterpieces. An exploration of the use of sound in Tati and Bresson, among others.

The 9th Athens Avant-Garde Film Festival is carried out in the context of “Cinephilia in the New Age II” which is funded by the European Union — European Regional Development Fund (Operational Programme ROP ATTIKI of NSRF 2014-2020). All actions are carried out under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports.
