A film director, running out of ideas for his new film, gets at- tached to an old man who peddles lavender in the streets: Spyros, an exiled communist, who has returned from Tashkent after 32 years exile. Spyros, on his return to his village, in which he had joined the resistance and fought the Nazi, witnesses amongst his compatriots a heightened readiness for selling land to developers, which he tries to stop in vain. Gradually he becomes totally isolated failing to keep up contact with his children. Only his wife, like a modern day Penelope, accompanies him when he is again exiled in a no man’s land.

Θόδωρος Αγγελόπουλος / Theo Angelopoulos

He was born in Athens in 1935, he interrupted his law studies, and enrolled to IDHEC to study cinema, but finally studied ethnographic film with Jean Rousch. In 1975 with The Travelling Players, he was aknowledged as one of the major art film directors. He was awarded in the most prestigious film festivals (Cannes, Venice, Berlin).
